Hnefatafl is an ancient Scandinavian board game with variants that were played throughout medieval Europe before the invention of chess. In these Tafl games, two armies of different sizes engage in combat. The invading black army seeks to capture the white king, while the defending white army aims to protect their king and facilitate his escape.

Commonly referred to as the Game of the Vikings, Hnefatafl portrays various historical accounts, such as the Moscovites' invasion of Sweden or Viking raids on Britain. However, a consistent theme pervades all these narratives: the pursuit of the king.

Despite its straightforward rules, the game presents captivating strategies and rewards tactical thinking. Players can attempt to encircle enemy pieces, strategize in advance, set traps, and push opponents to surrender. Will you succeed in capturing the king for riches and renown? Can the loyal guards fend off the invaders and ensure the safe passage of their king?

Players have the opportunity to create their own unique variants, with over 200,000 possibilities available. The online multiplayer feature facilitates cross-platform gaming, allowing users to play on any compatible device using a single account.
